Tell us a little bit about yourself:

Hi my name is Oliver, I’ve just turned twelve and I have lived in the east my whole life and so have my parents, grandparents and great grandparents. My family has been in the Eastern Suburbs since the 1800’s!

Why do you love the Eastern Suburbs?

The Eastern Suburbs is great for taking amazing photos. We have so many beautiful beaches & parks. I have been to all of the beaches in the east & they’re all magnificent.

I love going to the beach, for a swim, exploring on the rocks etc. I can also get something to eat at one of the cafes nearby. It’s never boring in the eastern suburbs.

When did you realise that you’re a good photographer?

I’ve been taking photos ever since I can remember. I’ve always loved it!

I really like seeing something beautiful, unique & fun, then I try to take a photo of that moment.

My dad has been a photographer for over thirty five years, so he’s been able to help me out if I have any questions about photography.

You’ve been chosen as a finalist in Little Sydney Lives 2024, can you tell us about your photo?

I love going to Wylie’s with my mum, dad & friends, it’s so much fun there. My dad & I love taking photos when we’re there. Last summer I was looking at all of the people sun baking from above & I knew I had to take a photo. There were so many people sunbathing, reading & relaxing & from above, the water looked amazing. I asked my dad for his phone & took two photos. A few months later my dad entered one of the photos in the Little Sydney Lives competition & I was so happy when they chose it as a finalist.

What advice can you give other kids about taking a good photo.

I think if you see something that you like, then take a photo of it! If you enjoy taking photos then keep taking photos & as they say, practice makes perfect.
