Get ready, Matraville — one of Randwick City’s biggest and brightest Christmas celebrations is back. Matraville Carols in the Park returns for its 22nd year on Saturday 13 December 2025, promising an afternoon and evening packed with music, family fun and all the festive spirit you can handle.

Each year, thousands gather in Barwon Park to enjoy a star-studded line-up of local performers — many of whom go on to become Australia’s rising stars. It’s the perfect, relaxed, family-friendly way to celebrate Christmas with your neighbours, friends and community.

What’s On

Amusement Rides – From 4 pm
Kick off the afternoon with rides and family activities to keep the kids smiling before the main event.

Carols – 6 pm to 8.30 pm
When the sun starts to dip, the music begins. Expect plenty of feel-good Christmas classics, standout vocalists and festive entertainment that will have the whole family singing along.

What to Bring

To make your night comfortable and enjoyable, organisers recommend packing:

  • Picnic rugs and low-to-ground seating

  • Hat and sunscreen

  • A good appetite — the food and beverage stalls are always a highlight

  • Your mobile phone

  • Christmas cheer (and your festive outfits if you’re keen)

  • Pets are welcome too, as long as they’re supervised

What Not to Bring

To keep the event safe and enjoyable for everyone, please leave these at home:

  • Disposable plastic ground covers

  • Elevated chairs or large beach umbrellas

  • Glass items

  • Sparklers or fireworks

  • Tents or marquees

  • BBQs

  • Bean bags or inflatable furniture

Matraville Carols is a family event with alcohol restrictions. Small quantities of alcohol are allowed within safe drinking standards. Intoxication won’t be permitted.

Parking and Neighbours

A big thank you goes to the wonderful neighbours around Barwon Park who welcome this event each year — many even decorate their homes, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Please note:

  • There is very limited parking

  • Some streets may have closures or traffic controls

  • No public parking is available on-site

  • Parking is available at Club Matto

  • Walking is strongly encouraged

  • Please avoid blocking driveways or nature strips

  • Keep noise to a minimum when leaving the event

Public Amenities

  • Toilets, including accessible facilities, will be located along the southern perimeter near Franklin Street

  • Accessible toilets should be reserved for those who need them

  • Extra toilet paper will be available at the Volunteers/Candles Tent if required

Seating is entirely on the lawn, with no reserved areas. Bring your picnic rug, low chairs, snacks and settle in for a relaxed evening under the stars.

Preserving Barwon Park

Please help keep Barwon Park beautiful. Randwick City Council will provide rubbish bins — use them where possible so volunteers can enjoy a smooth pack-down at the end of the night.
