Access is about to get easier at one of the Eastern Suburbs’ most loved swimming spots. Randwick City Council has begun major upgrades at Clovelly Ocean Pool, including the installation of a brand-new staircase to make entering and exiting the water safer and more convenient for everyone.

In response to community feedback, Randwick City Council has commenced building new stairs at the southeast corner of the Geoff James Pool (Clovelly Ocean Pool). This key upgrade will make getting in and out of the pool easier and more convenient, especially for those with mobility challenges.

To carry out the works safely, the pool is temporarily closed and is expected to reopen in June 2025 once construction is complete.

The project involves removing part of the pool’s east wall to make room for the new staircase, landing, handrail, and a pedestrian balustrade—delivering lasting improvements for the popular swimming spot.

These accessibility upgrades are part of a broader effort to enhance facilities at Clovelly Beach. Council is also finalising designs for a new, purpose-built Lifeguard facility. Construction is expected to begin in late May 2025.

Replacing the current seven-square-metre temporary tower, the new facility will be built in the same location on the south promenade and will offer better views of the beach, increased space for rescue equipment, and access to power and data.

Lifeguards will continue their patrols from a temporary location while construction is underway.

These upgrades mark a significant step toward making Clovelly Beach a safer, more inclusive destination for everyone.
