Randwick City Council is planning something exciting for local families, especially those with energetic little riders and tweens who love their scooters, BMX bikes, or skateboards!
As part of its commitment to supporting outdoor recreation and creating inclusive community spaces, the Council is proposing a brand-new pump park—a dedicated space designed for all ages and skill levels to enjoy BMX riding, mountain biking, skateboarding, and scootering.
What Is a Pump Park?
If you’re not familiar with pump parks, they’re circuits made up of small mounds and banked turns where riders use a “pumping” motion—rather than pedalling—to keep up speed. It’s a fantastic way to build balance, coordination, and confidence on wheels, and it’s just so much fun for kids (and grown-ups) alike!
Best of all, it’s a space designed to be inclusive and accessible—no matter your experience level.
Two Possible Locations – Which One Do You Prefer?
The Council is currently deciding between two locations in Malabar for the pump park, and they’re asking for your input.
Option 1: Cromwell Park North
✅ Large, shady park with fun undulating terrain
✅ Parking available on Franklin Street
⚠️ May cause increased traffic congestion
⚠️ No immediate toilet facilities
⚠️ Limited surveillance and space constraints due to varied land ownership
Option 2: Pioneers Park (North of AFL fields)
✅ Easy access from Anzac Parade and the shared path
✅ Nearby car park, public toilets, and water bubblers
✅ Good passive surveillance (great for keeping an eye on kids)
⚠️ Limited parking during sports events
⚠️ Currently used as a dog off-leash area (which would be relocated if chosen)
⚠️ Lacks natural shade and trees
Why This Matters
With adventure sports becoming more and more popular among children and teens, this pump park is a fantastic initiative to encourage kids to get outside, be active, and enjoy the fresh air. It’s also a great community hub in the making—bringing families together in a safe, well-designed recreational space.
But the Randwick Council wants to make sure it works for you—the people who’ll use it.
Have Your Say
Randwick City Council is asking the community to help choose the best location for the pump park: Cromwell Park North or Pioneers Park?
They’re also seeking feedback on how relocating the dog off-leash area at Pioneers Park might affect you and your furry family members.
🗣️ Your voice matters! This is your chance to help shape a space your children might soon call their favourite weekend hangout.
