Big changes are coming to two beloved eastern suburbs hubs! Starting in July 2025, major streetscape upgrades will begin in Maroubra Junction and Matraville town centres, bringing a fresh, modern feel to these local shopping strips while enhancing safety and accessibility for families, residents and businesses.

Randwick City Council will be rolling out these improvements in stages to minimise disruption, with both day and night works planned. Updates include:

  • New paving throughout key pedestrian areas

  • Public seating for rest and connection

  • Landscaping and additional trees to boost green space

  • Minor repairs and upgrades to existing infrastructure

In Matraville, the next stage of the makeover will focus on the western side of Bunnerong Road, between Perry Street and Daunt Avenue, continuing on from earlier works completed in mid-2024. These upgrades are part of the Matraville Public Domain Master Plan, adopted by Council in 2023, designed to revitalise the area and create a welcoming village feel.

Meanwhile in Maroubra Junction, works will focus on the western side of Anzac Parade, from Maroubra Road to Boyce Road. This marks the first stage of a 20-year master plan that aims to reimagine the heart of Maroubra as a more vibrant, accessible and family-friendly town centre.

Randwick Mayor Dylan Parker shared his enthusiasm for the projects, saying:
“These upgrades will enhance the look and feel of these important town centres, making the areas safer and helping to attract shoppers to local businesses. We’ve worked closely with residents and businesses to shape both master plans, and now we’re delivering on those visions.”

These changes are all about creating inviting, people-first places where locals can shop, stroll, meet up, and feel proud of their community.
