Families in the eastern suburbs have an exciting new schooling option, with Randwick High School set to open in 2025 as a modern co-educational institution. The school will bring together Randwick Boys and Randwick Girls High Schools, creating a fresh and dynamic learning environment for students.

This change comes after extensive consultation by the NSW Department of Education, which sought feedback from local families about their preferences for high school education. The results showed overwhelming support for co-education, particularly among parents of primary school children, with 75% expressing a preference for a co-ed high school.

To support this transition, the NSW Government has committed $42 million to upgrading the existing facilities, ensuring students have access to state-of-the-art classrooms, learning spaces, and recreational areas. Importantly, all existing school land will remain dedicated to education, with no plans to sell or repurpose any part of the site.

While Randwick High School will be fully co-educational from 2025, some adjustments will be made to support a smooth transition, particularly for Year 12 students. To ensure stability during their HSC year, existing class structures will remain in place, and all current Stage 6 courses will continue as planned.

The first day of school is set for 6 February 2025, and both students and teachers are looking forward to this exciting new chapter. The fresh co-educational model will provide more opportunities for learning, collaboration, and personal growth, setting students up for success in their high school years and beyond.

For families considering their high school options, Randwick High School marks a new era of education in the eastern suburbs—one that reflects the preferences of the local community and offers students the best possible start to their future.
