Step into a world where fabric becomes movement, memory and ritual in Curtain Call, a powerful new installation by acclaimed artist Lauren Brincat. This free exhibition invites visitors to experience textile in an entirely new way—alive with rhythm, emotion and meaning.

About the Exhibition

In Curtain Call, Brincat transforms cloth into something almost ceremonial. What begins as fabric evolves into talisman-like forms that unfurl across the gallery space. The installation explores the delicate tension between stillness and movement, control and release, body and memory.

Set within the historic architecture of Bondi Pavilion—a place shaped by gathering, performance and cultural exchange—the work draws on the spirit of ancient rituals once danced to heal, to connect and to endure.

Art That Holds Its Breath

As with many of Brincat’s works, the textiles feel poised—waiting. They evoke costumes, sets and gestures that might leap into motion at any moment. Each fold, twist and knot carries echoes of personal and shared histories, shaped in part during the artist’s residency at Art Omi in New York.

The installation invites visitors to reflect on the stories held within materials and the ways craft traditions are passed down through generations.

About Lauren Brincat

Lauren Brincat works across performance, video, installation and sculpture, exploring rhythm, sound and the body’s capacity for expression. Her practice is deeply responsive to site and community, often engaging with historical fractures and the limitations of language. Her use of textiles reflects what she calls the “social fabric”—a metaphor for connection, resilience and collective identity.

Curtain Call opens on 6 December 2025 and runs until 15 February 2026.
Discover a moving, multisensory experience that blurs the line between object and performance in the heart of Bondi.
