If you have a spot in your backyard or on your balcony that could use some greenery, the City of Sydney is giving away free trees to residents! Each household can claim up to two free trees—available on a first-come, first-served basis—until all 1,000 trees are gone.
Residents can choose from a variety of small, medium, and large native and exotic species. There’s a limit of one bay tree or citrus tree per household. Whether you prefer a deciduous tree that sheds leaves in autumn or an evergreen that stays lush all year round, there’s an option to suit your space.
City staff will be available on the day to provide advice on planting and caring for your new tree, ensuring it thrives for years to come. A list of available species will be provided at the event.
By participating in the giveaway, residents contribute to the City’s goal of increasing tree canopy coverage to 27% by 2050. More trees mean a cooler Sydney, better air quality, and improved habitats for local wildlife.
To claim your free trees, bring proof of residency within the City of Sydney area, such as a valid ID or utility bill. Due to high demand, it’s recommended to arrive early to secure your selection.
