Sydney beloved Christmas at the Cathedral returns for 2025, bringing nine enchanting nights of lights, music and festive celebration to the heart of Sydney. From 17–25 December, families can enjoy a beautiful evening out from 5:30pm–10:30pm, with the much-loved light show beginning at 8:30pm each night.

A Celebration of Community and Goodwill
Behind this remarkable event is the long-standing partnership between the Payce Foundation and the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney. Their shared commitment to giving back ensures that Christmas at the Cathedral remains free, accessible and welcoming to everyone.
“Christmas at the Cathedral is now one of Sydney’s most popular holiday traditions,” says Dominic Sullivan, Director of the Payce Foundation. “It’s a favourite event—free, accessible and welcoming to individuals and families, locals and visitors alike.”
At a time when cost-of-living pressures can feel overwhelming, the Payce Foundation’s support helps create a festive experience that every family can enjoy—without financial strain.
Supporting Those Who Need It Most
One of the charities benefiting from this event is Cana Communities, which works with people experiencing homelessness, addiction and mental health challenges.
CEO David Ballhausen explains that the generosity and awareness fostered by Christmas at the Cathedral extends far beyond December.
In 2025, Cana Communities will undertake two major initiatives:
-
Opening a new Darlinghurst home to support a family of asylum seekers on bridging visas.
-
Relocating their farm and social enterprise program to a new site in Grose Vale, ensuring continued pathways for healing and purpose.
“At Cana, we offer more than accommodation,” David says. “We help people see their worth and hope for a better future.”
