Bondi lifeguards urge beachgoers to be savvy on safety

Waverley Council has officially launched its ‘Stay Safe this Summer’ campaign! Featuring Waverley’s lifeguards, the campaign urges the local community and visitors to take simple steps to stay safe whilst at Bondi, Bronte and Tamarama beaches. Waverley Council has the longest patrol hours in Australia, between 6am and 7pm every day throughout summer. The campaign highlights the importance of swimming between the flags and provides advice on what to do should you get into trouble in the ocean, such as caught in a rip. Randwick Lifeguards Expand Patrols for a Safer Summer at Local Beaches Beachgoers can enjoy a safer swimming season as Randwick City Council Lifeguards kickstart their summer patrols at more Sydney beaches. Starting Saturday, 30 November, lifeguards will be on duty at Little Bay Beach and Malabar Beach during daylight hours until the end of summer. Diamond Bay Clifftop Walkway now open to the public

All Randwick City beaches reopen for swimming in time for the weekend

Coogee, Clovelly, Maroubra, Malabar and Gordons Bay beaches will reopen to the public from Saturday 19 October 2024. The five beaches, located in the Randwick City Council Local Government Area, were closed to the public during the week after thousands of ball-shaped tar debris was found. Transport for NSW Maritime today issued the all-clear for beaches to reopen saying the ball-shaped debris is not highly toxic to humans. Early morning inspections conducted today by Council’s Environmental Health Officers identified small quantities of debris still being washed ashore, much less than first appeared on Tuesday. New staircase for South Coogee rockpool

A new staircase to the Ivo Rowe Rockpool, nestled in South Coogee along the Coastal Walkway, is almost complete. The new staircase has been constructed to improve safety and accessibility to the rockpool located at 1R Bunya Parade, South Coogee. It replaces a concrete, rocky pathway, and is constructed of fibre reinforced polymer minimesh and stainless steel to protect it from the harsh coastal elements. Coogee Beach closed after unknown debris found washed ashore

Sydney’s Coogee Beach is closed until further notice after Randwick Council Lifeguards this afternoon, Tuesday 15 October, discovered mysterious, black, ball-shaped debris washed along the length of the beach. Randwick City Council environmental officers have collected samples for testing and reported the incident to the EPA and Beachwatch NSW. Council also said on Instagram that it had checked other beaches and only Coogee was known to be affected at this stage.
