Sporting clubs at Heffron Park in Maroubra are now enjoying improved training and game-time conditions thanks to the installation of brand-new LED lighting.

Randwick City Council recently replaced the aging halogen lights on the fields at the corner of Bunnerong and Jersey Roads with modern LED lights that meet Australian standards for rugby league. The new system delivers 200 lux of brightness—almost triple the output of the previous halogen lights, which only produced around 70 lux. This upgrade not only enhances visibility but also reduces energy consumption.

In addition to the lighting upgrade, Council has reconfigured the rugby league and cricket fields. This included relocating the cricket wicket and installing new goalposts to improve layout and functionality for local teams across rugby league, cricket, and Oztag.

These works are part of Randwick City Council’s long-term commitment to upgrading Heffron Park, one of the area’s most popular sporting hubs.

Recently completed projects include the new all-weather outdoor netball stadium, which officially opened in early May 2025. Upcoming improvements will focus on upgrading the criterium cycling track and constructing new changerooms, toilets, and extra storage facilities near the netball courts.

With these ongoing enhancements, Heffron Park is quickly becoming one of Sydney’s premier multi-sport community venues—safer, brighter, and better equipped for the thousands of players and spectators who use it each week.
