Lifesaving Boost for Little Bay Beach: New Defibrillator Installed

A publicly accessible defibrillator has been installed at Little Bay Beach, providing a vital new safety measure for beachgoers. This initiative is part of Randwick Council’s ongoing program to expand the availability of lifesaving devices across public spaces, including beaches, sports fields, and community buildings.

Conveniently located on the beach access stairs, the easy-to-use defibrillator offers clear step-by-step instructions, ensuring that anyone can operate it in an emergency. Additionally, the device automatically alerts Randwick City Council when maintenance or servicing is required, ensuring it remains in top working condition.

Randwick Mayor Dylan Parker emphasized the importance of these installations, saying, “When someone experiences a cardiac arrest, every second counts. Early CPR and defibrillation significantly improve survival rates. By making defibrillators more accessible, we are empowering the community to take action in an emergency and potentially save lives.”

While Council lifeguards and volunteer surf lifesavers at patrolled beaches in Randwick City are already equipped with defibrillators and trained in their use, this new installation ensures that lifesaving equipment is available to the public even at unpatrolled locations.

Defibrillators are also accessible at surf clubs in Coogee, Clovelly, Maroubra, and South Maroubra, as well as at key Council facilities like libraries, museums, and community centres. Randwick Council is continuing its commitment to public safety by expanding the number of 24/7 accessible defibrillators at more beachside locations, ocean pools, and sports fields.

This rollout follows the recent installation of Emergency Response Beacons (ERBs) at Malabar Beach, Little Bay Beach, Gordon’s Bay, and Mahon Pool, further enhancing emergency response capabilities along the Randwick coastline.

A map of all publicly accessible defibrillators in Randwick City is available online, helping locals and visitors stay informed about where to find these lifesaving devices when needed.
