Today, iconic international cheese brand Babybel begins its showcase of the winning wax sculpture from its inaugural Babybel Wax Challenge at popular Sydney shopping centre, Westfield Bondi Junction.
Earlier in the year, the brand launched a nation-wide search to find Australia’s top amateur creatives by inviting consumers to use the famous red wax coverings of Babybel cheese to craft miniature sculptures, with the chance of winning one of several Westfield vouchers and having their creation showcased for a week at the flagship outlet.
Babybel received numerous entries from all over Australia from people of all ages and different levels of skill, with the winning design submitted by Thomas Telford from Victoria. It featured three cheeky mice nibbling on a Babybel cheese.
“We were blown away by the entries received for our first ever Babybel wax challenge in Australia. The level of creativity made the judging panel’s job extremely difficult in picking the overall winner, but we think the “Three Cheeky Mice” ticked all the boxes,” said a Babybel spokesperson. “We are excited for Babybel fans to see the winning sculpture in person at Bondi Westfield Junction over the next week.”
The giant “Three Cheeky Mice” wax sculpture was brought to life by Sydney-based sculptor Marc Barold and his team. Marc is a contemporary artist best known for his dynamic large scale sculptural works, having worked on the Star Wars film franchise.
Marc and his team used wax from the equivalent of 20,000 Babybels to create the large sculpture and spent over two-and-a-half weeks creating it from scratch.
Consumers are invited to visit the “Three Cheeky Mice” giant sculpture at Westfield Bondi Junction (Level 3, outside Lovisa) from Monday 30 September to Sunday 6 October. For opening hours visit the Westfield website.
