Australian folk jazz trio, Elixir, have well and truly established themselves as a creative favourite on the Australian music scene. Featuring the ethereal voice of Katie Noonan and in collaboration with renowned Australian poet and cartoonist Michael Leunig, Elixir perform their new acclaimed album, ‘A Small Shy Truth’.

The Elixir band also includes phenomenal jazz musicians Zac Hurren on saxophones and Ben Hauptmann on guitar, who, with input from some of Australia’s finest composers (such as Iain Grandage, Joe Chindamo and Steve Newcomb), give musical life to the philosophical musings of Leunig.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Elixir was founded in 1997 by Katie Noonan, Nick Stewart and River Petein. Since then, it has existed in various forms connected by the unmistakable talent of Katie’s vocals. In 1999, saxophonist Zac Hurren (Katie’s partner of 24 years) added his saxophonist stylings and in 2005 guitarist Stephen Magnusson joined. In 2019 guitarist Benjamin Hauptmann replaced Stephen to form the trio they are today.

Their first self-titled album ‘Elixir’ (2003) went #1 on the ARIA Jazz Chart and #2 on the ARIA Australian Artist Chart. Their second album, ‘First Seed Ripening’ (2011) was #1 on the ARIA Jazz Chart for 9 weeks and won the 2011 ARIA Award for Best Jazz Album. Their third album, ‘Gratitude and Grief; (2018) was nominated for the 2018 ARIA Award for Best Jazz Album.

The trio is currently made up of Katie Noonan, Zac Hurren and Benjamin Hauptmann. Saxophonist/composer Zac Hurren has a National Jazz Award, ARIA Award and is a Freedman Jazz Fellowship finalist. Guitarist Benjamin Hauptmann is a Freedman Jazz Fellowship winner and National Jazz Award finalist. Vocalist Katie Noonan, formally of the band George, is a 5x ARIA, AWMA, AIR and APRA Award winner.
