Celebrate Father's Day by Planting a Tree at Heffron Park

Looking for a meaningful way to celebrate Father’s Day this year? Skip the traditional gifts and create a lasting memory by planting a native tree together at Heffron Park in Maroubra.

On Sunday 6 September, families are invited to roll up their sleeves and take part in a special Father’s Day Tree Planting Celebration, helping to create a greener Eastern Suburbs while honouring the dads, grandfathers and father figures in their lives.

A Gift That Will Keep Growing

Instead of another pair of socks or a new tie, why not give Dad something that will continue to grow for years to come?

Each family will have the opportunity to:

  • 🌳 Plant a native tree in honour of Dad.
  • 📜 Receive a beautifully crafted, sustainably sourced Father’s Day certificate.
  • 🌿 Learn about native plants and their importance in creating habitats for local wildlife.
  • 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Spend quality time outdoors with family, friends and the local community.

It’s a thoughtful way to celebrate Father’s Day while making a positive contribution to the environment.

Help Grow a Greener Maroubra

The event is part of Council’s ongoing greening program, encouraging the community to help plant more native trees and groundcovers throughout the city.

As you dig, plant and water together, you’ll also learn how native vegetation supports birds, insects and other wildlife by creating important habitats and increasing biodiversity.

It’s a fantastic hands-on activity for children, giving them the chance to connect with nature while learning how small actions can make a big difference for the environment.

A Fun Morning Outdoors

Whether you’re celebrating Dad, Grandpa, a special father figure or simply looking for a rewarding family activity, the tree planting morning promises plenty of fresh air, community spirit and muddy fun.

Two planting sessions are available:

  • 8:30am – 10:00am
  • 10:30am – 12:00pm

Be sure to wear:

  • Sturdy enclosed shoes
  • Long sleeves and long pants
  • A hat and sunscreen

You’ll also need to bring your own gloves and water bottle.
