One of the world’s biggest marathon events is returning to Sydney, and families in the Eastern Suburbs will have a front-row seat.
On Sunday 30 August 2026, the TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS will once again pass through Centennial Park and Moore Park, bringing more than 40,000 runners to one of Sydney’s most beautiful green spaces.
This year’s event marks a major milestone, with the Sydney Marathon now officially recognised as part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors, joining iconic races in New York, London, Boston, Chicago, Tokyo and Cape Town.
Centennial Park Takes Centre Stage
For locals, Centennial Park will become one of the most exciting sections of the course.
From around 7:00am, thousands of runners from Australia and around the world will make their way through the park’s tree-lined roads, creating an incredible atmosphere as spectators cheer them on.
Whether you’re supporting a friend or family member, introducing the kids to the excitement of a major sporting event, or simply enjoying the community spirit, Centennial Park is one of the best places to experience the marathon.
A Great Family Morning Out
Watching a marathon can be surprisingly inspiring for children. Seeing runners of all ages and abilities tackle the 42.195-kilometre course is a fantastic way to encourage conversations about healthy lifestyles, perseverance and setting goals.
Bring a picnic rug, find a spot along the course and enjoy the buzz as thousands of participants run past. There will also be entertainment, food vendors and plenty of supporters creating a lively atmosphere throughout the morning.
Planning to Visit Centennial Park?
If you’re thinking of heading to Centennial Park on marathon day, it’s important to plan ahead.
To ensure the safety of runners:
- All roads and vehicle gates within Centennial Park will be closed for the day.
- Road closures will also affect Moore Park, Driver Avenue, Federation Way, Grand Drive and areas surrounding the Entertainment Quarter.
- Visitors are encouraged to walk, cycle or use public transport where possible.
If you’re planning a family picnic, playground visit or bike ride, you may want to consider visiting the park on another day or arriving on foot if you’re there to enjoy the marathon atmosphere.
