For Eastern Suburbs Mums**
By Sydney Marriage Celebrant, Michael Janz
Planning a wedding in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs should feel joyful, simple and beautifully personal. Whether you’re newly engaged, planning a second marriage, blending families, or organising a relaxed celebration close to home, the right guidance makes the whole experience calm and enjoyable. From organising catering and decor to advising guests on what suits and dresses to wear to your wedding, the decision centers on where you decide to host your big day.
As a local celebrant based in Randwick, I’ve helped hundreds of couples create warm, authentic ceremonies across Coogee, Bronte, Watsons Bay, Vaucluse, Mosman and beyond. This guide gives Eastern Suburbs Mums a clear, friendly overview of what to expect — without the overwhelm.
And if you’re specifically looking for a female celebrant, my wife, Margaret Janz, would love to help. She brings a warm, calm presence and is also a highly experienced Sydney celebrant.
Why the Eastern Suburbs Is One of Sydney’s Best Wedding Regions
The East offers some of the most stunning, family-friendly wedding locations in the city. Many mums tell me they love the idea of a ceremony that feels close to home, easy for guests, and relaxed for kids.
Some of the most loved local venues include:
Vaucluse House — a timeless favourite
Vaucluse House is one of the Eastern Suburbs’ most iconic wedding locations. Couples love it for its:
• Expansive, elegant gardens
• Heritage charm
• Beautiful photo backdrops
• Easy access from Wentworth Road
• Calm, private feel despite being so close to the city
It’s perfect for couples wanting a ceremony that feels classic, romantic and deeply Sydney.
InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach
With the transformation of the former Crowne Plaza into the InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach, this iconic beachfront has stepped into a new era of luxury. For couples wanting a wedding that feels elegant, relaxed, and unmistakably coastal, the InterContinental is now one of Sydney’s most inspiring venues.
Coogee Beach
Ideal for relaxed, coastal ceremonies with soft light and ocean views.
Centennial Parklands
A favourite for garden weddings, family-friendly spaces and beautiful tree-lined backdrops.
Gunners’ Barracks & Sergeants’ Mess
Whilst not in the Eastern Suburbs, these are elegant, intimate and perfect for couples wanting a refined harbour-view ceremony.
Watsons Bay
A stunning choice for sunset ceremonies with sweeping harbour views.
What Planning a Ceremony Actually Looks Like
Most couples are surprised by how simple the process becomes once they have clear guidance. When we work together, I take care of the legal steps, the structure, the flow and the paperwork — so you can focus on the meaning of the day.
- A relaxed chat about your vision
We talk about what you love, what you don’t want, and how you imagine the day feeling. No pressure, no jargon.
- I handle the legal requirements — including the NOIM
One important thing every couple needs to know is this:
You must lodge a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) with an authorised celebrant at least one month before your wedding.
It’s a simple form, and I guide you through it step by step.
- We shape your ceremony together
You’ll receive examples, vow ideas, readings, structure options and creative suggestions. You can be as hands-on or hands-off as you like.
- Your wedding day flows smoothly
I take care of the timing, legal wording, microphones, certificates and all the behind-the-scenes details so you can simply enjoy the moment.
- Your marriage is registered
After the ceremony, I lodge everything with Births, Deaths and Marriages and help you apply for your official Marriage Certificate if needed.
Simple, warm, organised — that’s the goal.
Ceremony Ideas Eastern Suburbs Mums Love
Over the years, I’ve seen some beautiful, meaningful touches that work especially well for families:
• Involving children in the ceremony
• Short, relaxed ceremonies that feel natural and heartfelt
• Sunset beach ceremonies
• Garden ceremonies with space for kids to move
• Blended family rituals
• Personal vows that feel authentic, not overwhelming
If you’re unsure where to start, I’ll guide you with examples that feel genuine and true to you.
