Coogee is shining a little brighter after the installation of beautiful festoon lighting along Coogee Bay Road, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for locals and visitors enjoying the area at night.

Randwick City Council installed the decorative string lights last week between Arden Street and Brook Street, just in time for the launch of its new open-street event series Coogee Nights, which kicked off on Wednesday 4 March 2026.

The new lighting is designed to bring more life to the area after dark, encouraging locals to head out on weeknights while also helping to support nearby cafés, restaurants and small businesses.

Many residents welcomed the idea when Council sought community feedback late last year, noting that better lighting could help make the street feel more vibrant while also improving the overall night-time experience in Coogee.

To minimise glare for nearby homes, the lights have been fitted with directional fittings that focus illumination onto the street, keeping the atmosphere cosy without disturbing residents.

The festoon lighting will run as a six-month trial, after which Randwick Council will once again invite feedback from the community before deciding on its future.

If you’d like to experience the glowing new look of Coogee Bay Road, the next Coogee Nights event will take place on Wednesday 18 March 2026, bringing music, food and a lively midweek vibe to the neighbourhood.
