Australia Day 2026 is shaping up to be one of the biggest and most inclusive celebrations NSW has ever seen, with a full day of free events designed to bring families, friends and communities together from dawn until nightfall.
From sunrise reflections on Sydney Harbour to a spectacular evening concert and fireworks, the program offers something for every age and interest — making it an easy yes for families planning how to spend 26 January.
A Full Day of Celebration Across Sydney Harbour
Festivities will centre around Circular Quay and Sydney Harbour, transforming the city into a hub of activity across land, water and sky.
The day begins at sunrise with a Dawn Reflection, as the sails of the Sydney Opera House are illuminated with a powerful artwork by Garry Purchase, a proud Aboriginal man. This will be followed by the WugulOra Morning Ceremony at Barangaroo’s Walumil Lawns, offering a meaningful moment of reflection and connection.

Surf Life Saving NSW’s “Fun in the Sun” at First Fleet Lawn will offer free games and safety activities, helping kids learn how to stay safe at the beach.

The hugely popular Mega Kidz Zone returns to the Overseas Passenger Terminal, featuring giant games, inflatables and arcade fun.
Australia Day Live: Music, Fireworks and Reflection
The celebrations wrap up with Australia Day Live, a free concert at the Sydney Opera House forecourt featuring an all-star Australian lineup including Cody Simpson, Kate Ceberano, William Barton, Jude York and supergroup The Fabulous Caprettos.
The evening will also include a moving tribute to families and communities affected by the Bondi terror attack, alongside a performance by Sydney-based band SHIR – Australian Jewish Music Festival, who touched the nation with their rendition of I Am Australian at the Bondi vigil.
A unique fireworks display and aerial show over Circular Quay will close out the night in unforgettable style.
