Looking for something different (and free!) to do with the kids these October school holidays? Why not take them on an adventure into the heart of democracy at NSW Parliament House! On Friday 10 October, the historic building on Macquarie Street will throw open its doors for the 15th annual Family Fun Day, welcoming families to explore, play, and learn in one of Sydney’s most iconic heritage sites. It’s a rare chance for children to step inside Australia’s oldest parliament, take part in hands-on activities, and discover what happens behind the scenes of state decision-making – all while having loads of fun.

This one-day event is designed especially for children aged 5–12, with a huge program of interactive, hands-on fun:
-
Creative arts and crafts activities
-
Music and drawing workshops with Archibald Prize-winning artist Blak Douglas
-
Storytelling adventures with historical political characters
-
Join in a mock committee role play
-
Experience mock voting with the NSW Electoral Commission
-
Explore the Legislative Assembly and Council Chambers
-
Learn how Legal Aid NSW supports the community
While the kids are busy exploring, parents, grandparents and carers can soak up the beauty of Australia’s oldest parliament. Bring along a picnic to enjoy in the charming Speaker’s Garden, or treat yourself to a light meal or coffee at the Long Bell Café.
✨ Tickets are free, but bookings are essential.
Reserve your spot via the NSW Parliament Education site or book directly through Eventbrite.
