We’ve got some exciting news for local families! Woollahra Council is planning an upgrade to the Rushcutters Bay Park Playground, and they want to hear from us about how they can make it even better for our kids.

For those of us who live in the Eastern Suburbs, Rushcutters Bay Park is one of the most popular spots to spend a sunny afternoon. With its beautiful harbourside views, it’s a go-to destination for families, especially with the Rushcutters Bay Kiosk nearby for a quick coffee or snack. The playground itself is well-loved by our little ones, with plenty of activities for kids of all ages.

What’s Already There?

The playground currently has a great mix of fun and functional features, such as:

  • Accessible bubbler
  • Four bench seats for us to relax while watching the kids
  • Rubber softfall surfaces for added safety
  • Swings, including toddler seats
  • A gyro spinner
  • A toddler activity board and an octopus activity board
  • A rocking boat, obstacle ropes, a cubby house with a slide, and more!

However, we all know that playgrounds are constantly evolving to meet the needs of our growing families. So, it’s fantastic that the Woollahra Play Space Strategy has identified Rushcutters Bay Park for an upgrade.

What’s the Council Planning?

The council is keen to make the playground more inclusive and enjoyable for every child who visits. But they need our feedback to ensure it reflects what families truly want.

What would make this playground even better for our little ones? More shaded areas? A wider range of equipment for different ages? Or perhaps features that make it easier for children of all abilities to play together?

How Can We Have Our Say?

Woollahra Council has opened up a short survey where we can share our thoughts. It’s super easy – just fill it out and, if you’re feeling creative, upload an image of a playground you love for inspiration!

But be quick – the survey closes on Sunday 9 February 2025 at 11:59pm.

What Happens Next?

Once all our feedback is collected, the council will work on the concept design for the new playground. We’ll get another chance to have our say when the concept is shared with the community in mid-2025. Then, after fine-tuning the design, construction will begin in early to mid-2026. So we have some time to dream big about what the space could become!

How to Get Involved:

  • Complete the survey linked below.
  • Upload an image of a play space you’ve visited and loved.
  • Share your thoughts and ideas for the new playground.

It’s a great opportunity for us to shape a space that will be fun and safe for our kids for years to come. Let’s make sure our voices are heard!
