It comes around each May (in the Southern Hemisphere) but every day is Mothers Day and this Sunday 12th May we celebrate it here in Australia. Often it’s extremely commercialised and we often feel obligated to do many things but are tired with juggling weekend sport, sleepless nights and family obligations.
Founder of Eastern Suburbs Mums Natalie has put together a list of her 7 recommendations locally to celebrate Mother’s Day in the east. Options suit those that want to indulge a bit to those that don’t won’t to break the budget but give you a chance to spend quality time with family or just yourself.
1. Family walk or bike ride in local parks
Nothing beats fresh air and sunshine in Autumn. The east is spoiled for choice with so many wonderful outdoor locations. Centennial Park is always a winner as you can walk and ride and have loads of parking. Sydney Park is newly updated with some great views of the city and bike riding for the kids. Pack your own food or get takeaway and if the weather is great throw together a picnic.
2. Coastal Walk
Where do we start? Bondi to Bronte, Coogee to Clovelly, Malabar Headland Walk, Dover Heights cliff top known as The Federation Cliff Walk (start from the Grumpy Baker). Walk the Yarra Bay Loop great part of south east Sydney to explore.
3. Local Markets
In the east every Sunday at Bondi Public School between 10am – 4pm is the Bondi Artisan Markets to browse for marketware, fashion and vintage goods whilst having a coffee then heading into Bondi or down at the beach for a bite to eat.
4. Pamper Yourself
A massage or a deluxe facial for tired and time poor mums is a great gift, supporting local businesses is even better so scroll though our Health and Wellness local business directory with various businesses who offer massage, Thai massages, facials and beauty
5. Have a laugh or watch a movie
Take mum out for a laugh at the Sydney Comedy Festival Showcase at Bondi Pavillion. Last event date is Monday 13th May from 7:00pm for more info and bookings here also grab a movie on at the many cinemas in the east – Randwick Ritz, Palace Cinema’s Paddington, Event Cinemas Westfield Bondi Junction or Hoyts Eastgardens.
6. Have a Mini Getaway
Maybe a last minute booking or surprise mum with a booking and take later. Either local or farther afield there are some great options and choices for places to stay and getaway with mum or just time out for herself.
7. At Home
Sometimes the best option is to stay home, get brekkie in bed involve the kids in this, get someone to cook a nice lunch or dinner, bake a cake and watch a movie all together or get your partner or family to take everyone out of the house for the day and just have YOU time!
We also understand that Mother’s Day can be a difficult day for some in our community who don’t have mum around, single parenting or difficult circumstances so whatever your situation is please remember its just a day and everyone is doing their best.
