A majestic fig tree on Quail Street in Coogee has been spared from removal following renewed negotiations between Randwick Council and its insurer, Statewide Mutual. The decision comes after widespread community concern and efforts by council staff to find a solution that would allow the tree to remain in place. The mature fig, one of several lining Quail Street, was originally set to be removed after a local resident reported damage to a nearby fence. A new shared path in Paine Reserve, Randwick is now open, providing better walking and cycling connections to nearby workplaces, schools, playgrounds and sports fields.
