Take Over: Youth Creative Lab Offers Free Workshops

Got a creative teen at home? Randwick Town Hall is transforming into a creative hub these spring school holidays, with five days of free music, art and digital workshops for young people aged 14–20.

Take Over: Youth Creative Lab will bring young people together to experiment, create and learn alongside practising artists from Heaps Decent.

From songwriting and DJing to digital art and merchandise design, there’s plenty to explore — and no previous experience is needed.

Throughout the five-day program, participants can get hands-on with a range of creative activities, including:

Songwriting and beat-making
DJing
Recording and music production
Performance
Visual and digital art
Album artwork and logo design
Merchandise and promotional design

Whether your teen is already passionate about music or art, wants to develop their skills or is simply curious to try something completely new, they’re welcome to get involved.

The program is designed to give young people the freedom to participate at their own level while building confidence, learning new skills and connecting with other young creatives.

Share What You’ve Created

At the end of the week, participants will have the opportunity to take part in an optional public showcase on Saturday 3 October.

It’s a chance to share some of the music and artwork created during the week with friends, family and the wider community.

Participation in the showcase is optional.

The program particularly welcomes young people who may not usually have access to creative opportunities or who are looking for a supportive way to connect with a creative community.

Evening Creative Masterclasses at Randwick Town Hall

There’s something for the grown-ups and broader community too.

Alongside the daytime youth program, Randwick Town Hall will host a series of evening creative masterclasses, with a different hands-on workshop each night.

No previous experience is necessary.

Get Creative These School Holidays

For teens interested in music, DJing, songwriting, art or digital design, Take Over offers something a little different to the usual school holiday activities.

It’s free, local and open to all experience levels, making it a great opportunity to try something new, develop creative skills and meet other young people from the community.

Places are limited, so interested families are encouraged to register early.
