The South Maroubra Ocean Swim is a great event for every ocean swimmer with distances to suit all abilities and even the kids.

The primary venue is South Maroubra Beach which is a 20 minute drive from Sydney CBD, with the backup venue set for Malabar, should the conditions be unsuitable at the beach.

This ocean swim offers three different swim distances;  500m, 1km and 2.5km and can be swum by anyone nine years and over. On completion of the swim, there will be a presentation where you can collect your medal and enjoy a fun afternoon with the family while listening to the live entertainment and enjoy a drink and food from the bar and bbq.

Maroubra is an open beach with an exposed beach break.

Swim Courses

There are distances on offer for all abilities and they are all a simple circuit around the buoys in front of South Maroubra Surf Club.

Maroubra Beach is an open beach with sifting banks, gutters and the occasional rip as with any beach, all making for an exciting swim for all abilities.

The 500m is a short square circuit. Starting on the beach you will head out through the break before turning south and heading down the back straight before heading back into shore for the finish.

The 1km course is a long rectangle course with swimmers heading further out to sea before heading back to shore.

The 2.5km course starts on the beach before heading out through the break and taking a sharp left-hand turn north before swimming to the northern headland. Once at the headland you will turn right for a short straight out to sea followed by another right turn, here you will swim the length of the bay back to South Maroubra before taking one last turn right and heading back into the beach where you’ll have conquered the swim.

While You’re There

Once you finish your swim, take in the spectacular sights of mother nature and the ocean from Maroubra headland and Mahon ocean pool.

There are plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from in Maroubra including local favourite The Bay Hotel, known for its pub food and ice-cold beer. The Grumpy Baker is also a must when visiting, their croissants, chocolate brownies, unique sourdough bread and fruit scrolls are like no other.
